THE HOUSE ALWAYS WINS on ZUDA [07 Dec 2009|12:13pm]

illustrators

[john_bivens]
Hey folks, been a while since I posted here but I've been busy. Work coming up in Popgun Volume 4, a long comic coming out with TOR.com in 2010, some proposals and benefit anthology work has kept me away for a bit.

One thing that I was working on a few months ago is currently in competition over at ZUDA.com, and I can use some help. Worst case scenario in this is you get to read a comic so bare with me a moment.

These steps will help a lot.
1)Go to the
ZUDA website, and if you don't have an account, create one(you don't get a bunch of spam, only a semi monthly update on what's going on at ZUDA... and all that is, is free comics... it's a freak'n win win folks).
2)Once signed up, go to our comic, give it a read, and vote for us. Along with voting, giving us five stars and adding us to your favorites is a big help also.
3)Spread the word. Marketing in any
ZUDA competition is pretty much viral. There are a couple of images in this post, and it would be pretty darn nice if you could help Josh and I spread them around.

Fat Visibility in YA Fiction [07 Dec 2009|04:29pm]
shapely_prose
Shapelings, let’s talk fatness in young adult fiction. YA fiction often positions fat as shorthand for countless negative qualities the writer is too unmotivated to develop – like presenting bullies as fat kids, which reinforces fatness as something sinister and deserving of scorn – or as the genesis of a butterfly story, which reinforces fat [...]

While looking for LOTR photos on my computer, I stumbled on some of my ancient fanart. Some of these are ten years old, and utterly embarrassing, BUT I AM POSTING THEM ANYWAY. So your spam for today looks like this:

This just in:

"Activists remain on the roof of Parliament's West Block after unfurling a banner which reads "Harper/Ignatieff: Climate inaction costs lives."

Um, hey guys? Just FYI: CLIMBING ONTO THE ROOF OF THE WEST BLOCK could cost lives, too. Like maybe YOURS.

Hey! So...I like to think that though my size limits my possibilities I dress pretty trendily. My wardrobe mainly consists of band tees and cardigans which is sad in it's own way...U am however open to pretty much anything. I've been in love with high waisted skirts for ages but can't find anything in my size...but the main point of this post is...

WHAT ARE SOME GOOD PLACES TO SHOP FOR YOUNG TRENDY AFFORDABLE CLOTHING!?(excluding Torrid, Old Navy, and B&LU)

I'm 21yrs. old.About 5 feet 9 in. I'm not too sure about my weight...but I wear anywhere from a size US28 to well, anything I suppose.
My mom is a master at clothes tailoring so she can take it in but it's a little hard to let out.

I'll take any suggestions including foreign companies, eBay websites, and even great DIY ideas.

this is me... )

So. [info]andeincascade, [info]tibbystardust and I decided it might be a nice idea to have a Slings & Arrows night, and we thought this Thursday would be a good time to do it! So this is your Official Announcement:

S&A Night
Thursday, Dec. 10
8 PM EST

We'll be watching the first three episodes, so if you've never seen S&A before, this is a good time to start! It's also good for people who've seen it a bazillion times before, because more S&A is never not a good thing. Yay!

Oh, and I'm not sure what chat medium we'll be using yet, but we'll work it out and let you know here and at [info]ds_noticeboard ASAP.

Art for Melisus! [07 Dec 2009|08:31am]

yuletart

[yuletart_mods]
Title: 1. "Dark Reflections" & 2. "Presenting ..."
Gift for: [info]melisus
Artist: ???
Rating: PG
Fandom: Star Trek (Reboot)
Warnings: None
Artist's Notes: Dear Melisus: Allowing creativity free rein was probably a dangerous option. I hope you like the result and are amused. I'm not sure there is a good explanation for the second painting, except that I painted them all barechested while I tried (unsuccessfully) to find a non-cheesy variation of the Mirror Mirror uniforms (I'm blaming the waist scarves), and I just couldn't help adding a silly AU variation. Ummm, sorry?
Summary: Chekov, McCoy and Kirk in the Reboot version of the Mirrorverse, as either the mirrorverse counterparts, or our characters undercover, depending on your preference.. The uniforms are a mashup of the original "Mirror Mirror" uniforms and later series Mirrorverse standards (Leather! Spiky hair! Stubble!). Plus a bonus, very different, AU.

Subtle Lunacies [07 Dec 2009|11:31pm]

Subtle Lunacies: an Etsy store

This is the kind of thing which happens when I go on hiatus from novel-writing for a couple of months. My idle brain Does Things.

Anyway, look! Etsy store! Nonsense to buy! I've kept the international shipping prices as low as I can, so I hope things are within affordable price ranges as such. Heaps more items coming in the next days and weeks, once more of the supplies I've ordered arrive and I perform my nefarious magics on them.

And now I am going to go sleep, as I have been staring at a screen for many hours to get this all set up and so right now my eyeballs hate me a lot.

Edit: AHAHA the "Joan of Arc. And squids." necklace lasted about TEN SECONDS before being snatched up. Clearly I need to make some more of those in the future.

Lap Scarring [07 Dec 2009|11:34am]

endometriosis

[djonma]
[ mood | awake ]

Please forgive me for posting this here; my results were negative for endo, so I'll be leaving the comm soon, but since it's about lap scarring, I thought a lot of people here would know about it.

I have a medical condition which means I do not scar normally. I get the occasional keloid, but worse and more usual, I get what are called cigarette paper scars. It means they're really thin, and they break open a lot.
My bottom wound from the lap is going the thin way, it's spread out a lot, and I'm just stuck with it.

The top wound is still just pretty much a line, a bit thin, but not too bad.

The belly button wound, however...
The line has started to pop out, and the whole of the bottom of my belly button (inside) feels really tough and hardish.
The scar is a thin line, really tough, white.

This may sound really stupid... but I have never had a 'normal' scar in my life.
Is this just a normal scar?
Does the scar tissue go tough?

I'm just really confused by it as it's different to everything else I've ever had.
If it's normal, fantastic!
Makes a change, and that's one place I really wanted a good scar - I do NOT want that breaking open and bleeding for years to come!

I was sure to take extra time to rest up and heal properly, since I heal very, very slowly, and I was eating well, and took multivitamins.
